Breast Lift in Turkey
A breast lift, or mastopexy, raises breasts that have dropped after pregnancy, weight change or aging. When volume has also been lost, an implant can be added in the same plan.

What does a breast lift in Turkey involve?
A breast lift, or mastopexy, is an operation that raises and reshapes sagging breasts by removing loose skin, tightening the remaining tissue and moving the nipple higher. The surgery is done under general anesthesia and usually takes two to three hours. Most international patients stay in Istanbul for about a week before flying home.
How does a breast lift work?
A breast lift (mastopexy) is a surgical procedure that raises the breast on the chest wall and reshapes it into a firmer, more lifted contour. The surgeon removes excess skin, tightens the tissue that remains and moves the nipple and areola higher, often reducing a stretched areola at the same time.
How sagging is assessed
Surgeons usually grade sagging, known as ptosis, by where the nipple sits compared with the crease beneath the breast.
- Mild The nipple sits roughly level with the breast crease.
- Moderate The nipple has dropped below the crease but still faces forward.
- Severe The nipple sits well below the crease and points downward.
Incision patterns
The more lift is needed, the longer the incision. Mild cases may need only an incision around the areola; moderate sagging often uses a “lollipop” pattern around the areola and down to the crease; significant sagging may need an anchor pattern that also runs along the crease.
A lift alone does not add fullness to the upper breast, which is why some patients combine it with breast augmentation. After pregnancy, some plan it alongside a tummy tuck. The plastic surgery overview lists related options.

Lift alone or lift with implants: which do you need?
| Feature | Breast lift alone | Lift with implants |
|---|---|---|
| Main aim | Raise, reshape and reposition the nipple | Raise and reshape, and add volume |
| Breast size | Similar, or slightly smaller as skin is removed | Larger, depending on implant size |
| Upper-breast fullness | Limited; tissue is moved, not added | More fullness above the nipple |
| Operating time | Usually 2–3 hours | Often longer, as two procedures are combined |
| Long-term upkeep | Scars and natural aging | Also implant checks and possible replacement |
| Often suits | Enough volume, but sagging and stretched skin | Sagging with lost volume, often after pregnancy |

How is a breast lift performed step by step?
- 01
Online assessment
You send photos and your medical history; a surgeon suggests whether a lift, implants or both may suit you. - 02
Consultation and marking
In Istanbul the surgeon examines you, confirms the plan and marks the new nipple position while you stand. - 03
Anesthesia
An anesthesiologist gives general anesthesia and monitors you throughout the operation. - 04
Reshaping
The surgeon lifts and shapes the breast tissue, raises the nipple and areola and, if planned, places an implant. - 05
Closure
Excess skin is removed, the incisions are closed in layers and a supportive bra is fitted over the dressings. - 06
Check before flying
The surgeon checks the wounds before you leave Istanbul and confirms when flying is reasonable.
How long does breast lift recovery take?
Most people resume light daily activity within one to two weeks, while the final shape and scars develop over several months. Recovery is often a little longer when implants are added.
- Days 1–3 Soreness, swelling and tightness, eased by prescribed pain relief and rest.
- Weeks 1–2 Dressings are reviewed; many people return to desk work.
- Weeks 2–6 Wear a supportive bra day and night and avoid lifting or strenuous exercise.
- Months 3–6 Swelling settles and the breasts take on their longer-term shape.
- Month 12 onward Scars gradually flatten and fade, though they remain visible.
Travel, hotel and follow-up from home are explained on the medical tourism page.
What are the risks and limits of a breast lift?
A breast lift leaves permanent scars and carries the usual risks of surgery. Your surgeon reviews your personal risk factors before you decide.
- Scarring Scars are permanent; some widen, thicken or stay pink for longer than expected.
- Healing problems Small wound openings, often where incisions meet, are more likely in smokers.
- Nipple changes Sensation may change; rarely, part of the nipple or areola loses its blood supply.
- General risks Bleeding, infection, fluid collection, asymmetry and reactions to anesthesia.
What a lift cannot do
A lift does not stop aging, gravity, pregnancy or weight change from affecting the breasts, so some sagging may return over the years. Breastfeeding afterwards is often possible but cannot be guaranteed. Implants add their own risks, including capsular contracture, rupture and likely future surgery, and a combined operation has a somewhat higher chance of revision.
Screening and flying home
Reshaped tissue can show on mammograms, so tell the radiographer about your surgery. Surgery and long-haul flights both raise the risk of blood clots, and your surgeon decides when you can fly. A lift is usually postponed during pregnancy, breastfeeding or uncontrolled illness. The travel and treatment FAQ answers common questions, or you can ask for a surgeon’s assessment.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a breast lift cost in Turkey?
The cost depends on the incision pattern needed, whether implants are added, anesthesia and hospital time, and how long you stay in Istanbul. Because these vary from person to person, the clinic does not list one fixed price; a personal quote follows the surgeon’s assessment of your photos and medical history.
How long do I need to stay in Istanbul for a breast lift?
Most patients plan around six to seven days. That typically allows for the consultation and tests, the operation, a short period of observation and a wound check before flying. Adding implants or another procedure may extend the stay, and your surgeon confirms when it is reasonable to travel.
Will a breast lift make my breasts smaller?
A lift mainly changes position and shape rather than size. Because stretched skin is removed and the tissue is tightened, breasts often look slightly smaller or more compact afterwards. If you want more volume, implants can be added; if you want noticeably smaller breasts, a breast reduction may suit you better.
How long do breast lift results last?
The lift itself is long-lasting, but it does not stop the natural effects of aging, gravity, pregnancy and weight change. Many people keep a clearly improved shape for years, while some sagging may gradually return. Keeping a stable weight, wearing supportive bras and avoiding smoking help maintain the result.
Can I have a breast lift before having children?
A lift can be done before pregnancy, but pregnancy and breastfeeding may stretch the breasts again and undo part of the result. Many surgeons suggest waiting until your family is complete. If you go ahead first, ask how the chosen technique may affect future breastfeeding, which cannot be guaranteed after breast surgery.
Will the breast lift scars be visible?
Scars follow the incision pattern: around the areola only, around the areola and down to the crease, or also along the crease. A bra or bikini top usually covers them. Scars are typically red at first and fade over twelve to eighteen months, but they are permanent and vary between individuals.
